The ever-popular Alan Barnes will be bringing his effervescent good humour and brilliant musicianship to Basingstoke’s Irish Centre on Monday 30th March as leader of a glittering all star band in a charity concert in aid of Cancer Research dedicated to the music of the legendary Duke Ellington.
Alan is one of the UK’s most versatile musicians. Equally adept on the clarinet and alto and baritone saxophones, he appears regularly as a guest soloist across the country and as leader of various sized ensembles at clubs and festivals. He was voted #1 alto saxophonist in the 2019 British Jazz Awards, #2 clarinet, while his recording ‘Alan Barnes Plus Eleven’ received acclaim as #1 new album of the year.
He will be joined by the remarkably gifted Andy Panayi, who plays all the flutes and all the saxophones and a ‘Rolls Royce’ rhythm section comprising three more 2019 poll winners – Nigel Price on guitar, bassist Dave Green and Steve Brown on drums.
An evening not to be missed!
