The Emily Francis Trio was formed in 2014 by west London musicians, Emily Francis (piano and keyboards), Trevor Boxall (bass), and Liam Waugh (drums). Their early performances, including the Ealing Jazz Festival, helped to form the basis of their sound. The Absent, their debut album, was released in 2015 to positive reviews. The release led to shows at Jazz Cafe POSK, and The Hideaway, Streatham, as part of London Jazz Festival. The Absent established the Trio’s early approach; creating original jazz, with an emphasis on melody, that combines a broad range of styles. The album also exhibits the group’s ability to mix the old and new, particularly the use of analogue tape and vintage instruments, to create modern music with a classic vibe. The band played a follow-up tour in Spring 2016 at venues such as PARR Jazz – Liverpool, Matt & Phreds – Manchester, Southampton Modern Jazz Club, and Norwich Jazz Club.
