Identity

Hannah Horton is a London based jazz saxophonist, improviser, composer, educator and multi instrumentalist (sax/clarinet/flute/bassoon).

She began playing when she was 10 years old and studied jazz saxophone at Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama in her teens. Hannah became a lead member of NYJO (National Youth Jazz Orchestra) and National Youth Music Theatre during this time, whilst simultaneously forming her first jazz quartet.

Hannah gained her advanced postgraduate performance diploma from Trinity College of Music, having studied with many sax greats including Mark Lockheart, Tim Garland, Paul Bartholomew and Gerard McChrystal. Since then her hallmark velvet tone, arabesque-like agility and dynamic playing have attracted growing audiences.

In 2012 Hannah’s stunning debut album was received with great acclaim featuring some original compositions including the title track ‘Forget Me Not’ (written for her late grandmother). Since then Hannah has been performing in Europe and the USA with her own and other jazz groups.

Hannah has performed with many great jazz artists including Ian Shaw, Amy Winehouse, John Etheridge, Tina May, Georgia Mancio, Polly Gibbons, Natalie Williams, Esther Bennett and Irene Serra; and at venues including Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express Dean St, 606, The Pheasantry, Love Supreme Jazz Festival, Royal Festival Hall and The Barbican.
