SVCV is a registered charity No. 520900 and is answerable to the charity commission. The centre is managed by a Management Committee that is made up of local volunteer members (currently 16) who attend regular committee meetings to ensure the Charitable aims of the Association are being achieved and to ensure the demands of the Community are being met.
SVCV is a well-run community association that provides a wide range of services, activities and a meeting space for people of all ages. We provide resources for activities, groups, entertainment and projects that bring people together and help them develop social networks and support. The facility is inclusive and inspires and promotes learning, creativity and participation through a variety of weekly groups and events throughout the year.
Established in the mid 1960’s the centre has been home to a variety of groups and activities. We strive to keep the centre updated and in 2013 we were lucky enough to receive a grant from BIFFA which enabled us to refurbish the toilets and community room. This was a project that was very much needed and welcomed by the community. In 2014 we received a grant from The Asda Foundation to support our Community Cafe project and we have seen the centre grow from strenght to strength with lots of new people using the facilities.
We have regular weekly groups and clubs who between them cater for all ages and abilities. These groups vary from health and exercise, dance, under 5’s, drama, martial arts, educational and arts and crafts. Please see further details of the many activities we host on this website.
We have a variety of rooms also available for private hire/functions, ranging from the main hall complete with stage area to enable theatrical productions, training room. community room, dressing room and a kitchen.
Why not come and join one of our activities or start a group of your own? If you have some free time and are thinking about building you skills and giving back to the community please get in touch with us for volunteering opportunities.
History: Springwell Village Hall Association was established in July 1965 and the Constitution was adopted in September 1965. The Village Hall is at the heart of the Springwell Village, which was a historical pit village. The association adopted a new constitution in July 2009 and the name was changed to Springwell Village Community Venue.
The building itself is owned by Sunderland City Council and a 25 year lease was signed in 2007.
Over the past ten years the building has undergone a few changes and been made more user friendly and modern, thanks to capital grant funding from The Strategic Initiatives Budget, Biffa Award and Ada Foundation..
Finance: All monies needed to keep the centre open and in good order comes from the hiring out of rooms, the entertainments and carnival committee, the annual pantomime, various fundraising activities and grant funding. To this day the Association, a registered charity, continues to strive to raise the funds necessary to provide these facilities for the community.
The centre has a Service Level Agreement in place with Sunderland Council and this is applied for on an annual basis. SVCV commit to the agreement and in return receive a small amount of grant aid funding.
