VOTI - voices of the industry

Watch the fabulous Bellowhead busk from their homes during lockdown, bringing us a bit of  “silliness and, hopefully, some joy!”

Emily Dankworth, the third generation of the famous Dankworth UK Jazz has recorded a fantastic version of Scarborough fair, also featuring her father Alec Dankworth on bass and Barnaby Dickinson on trombone.

”Music is revealing its truly magical capabilities and helping us all through this bizzarre moment in time! Whilst we are now confined to our houses, we need to try our utmost to stay positive and occupied. I have found that through recording and making videos with my network of musician friends (and family), I can still feel connected, and I have something to keep my mind being creative and occupied!” – Emily Dankworth

This is a little socially distant recording of thanks to the doctors, nurses, all the people that keep the NHS working and us safe – for all the key workers that are keeping us going.

We are just musicians that can’t do what we do at the moment but wanted to do something, and this is all we know. So, we decided to remotely record a EWF song to hopefully make you tap your toe, nod your head or groove a little and let you know how we feel about you, and how much we appreciate what you’re doing for all of us.

We are studio musicians, you may recognise some of us from the Strictly Come Dancing band.

All Fired Up are: Tommy Blaize, Derek Green, Karlos Edwards, Dave Arch, Andrew Small, Tim Cansfield, Trevor Barry, Tony Remy, Pete Murray, Andy Greenwood, Tom Walsh, Nichol Thomson. Missing is Jody Linscott, our percussionist who is on her boat self isolating and has no internet to join in, but she is very much apart of this thank you and her spirit is always in what we do.

New York based Israeli clarinetist & saxophonist Anat Cohen celebrates a lockdown Internation Jazz Day 2020 with her brothers and some joyous fast bop. And some cocktails and incredible views! Dedicated to the memory of Lee Konitz.

”International Jazz Day 2020 is the appropriate day to put out our version of Lenny Tristano’s amazing “Line Up”. We would like to dedicate this video to the memory of the great Lee Konitz.” – Anat Cohen

Something a bit different from Billy Marrows and the Patchwork Jazz Orchestra ..

”A recent composition of mine, ‘Genmaicha’ features special guest Gareth Lockrane and is from our lockdown EP, ‘The Light That Shines’. The video breaks away from the common split-screen lockdown formula; it tells the story of my quest for a cup of Genmaicha tea, which is continuously sabotaged by Patchwork musicians who’ve taken over my house and neighbourhood… I made it during lockdown using stop motion animation combined with the footage of us recording at home.”Billy Marrows

Electric Lady Big Band is a 16-piece ensemble formed in 2018 to pay respect to the music of Jimi Hendrix in an attempt to realise Jimi’s 1970 dream to “have a big band I can write and conduct for.”

Trombones: Winston Rollins, Ian Bateman, Ashley Slater, Richard Henry

Saxophones: James Gardiner-Bateman, Iain Ballamy, Ben Waghorn, Kevin Figes

”Here’s a new thing I’ve written called ‘Family’ – a dedication to all the members of mine, near and far, many of them facing their own individual challenges at an already difficult time. It had previously never occurred to me to round up every instrument I can play (some of them barely!) and create a piece of music with them. It might be a bit rough around the edges cause I’m just learning the tech involved in putting this sort of thing together. I hope you like my experiment.” – Paul Towndrow

Indie-folk duo Abigail and Shaun Bengson create an intimate evening of storytelling through song. In dark times, people have long found solace in the sound of their shared voices around a small light, and The Bengsons invite you to lean into the glow of your screen as they explore living fully even in moments of fear, choosing to love fiercely, and cultivating joy as a form of personal activism.
