Georgia Mancio’s Jazz Hang 2019

Weds 9th October – Where We Once Belonged

with Robert Mitchell, Shirley Smart, Kim Macari, Georgia Mancio and Tom Cawley

A group of multi-faceted artists share stories, songs and music of their heritage, in reflection of and response to our current times. Pianist/composer Robert Mitchell (True Think, Alicia Olatuja) presents a poetic response to the Windrush scandal – himself a child of the Generation – with cellist Shirley Smart (Avishai Cohen, Yasmin Levy). Kim Macari weaves spoken word with improvised solo trumpet in evocative soundworlds, exploring her roots as a Scottish woman. Award-winning vocalist Georgia Mancio (Alan Broadbent, Liane Carroll) pens intriguing family portraits from Europe and beyond in songs co-written with pianist Tom Cawley (Peter Gabriel, Catenaccio). TICKET LINK

Pianist/composer Kate Williams (Bobby Wellins, Stan Sulzmann) meets vocalist/lyricist Georgia Mancio (Alan Broadbent, Ian Shaw) in a collection of songs, old and newly co-written, for voice, piano trio and string quartet. This year their album garnered 4 star reviews from The Financial Times, Jazzwise and Jazz Journal with sell out tour dates. From the tragedy of the refugee crisis to romantic spoken word groove, reworked classics from Chile, Brazil and the Great American Songbook, a focus on the natural world, loss and hope: Finding Home is “a triumph of integrity and classy musicality” The Guardian 4. Fri 11th October – Songbook

Songbook is the exquisite playing and writing partnership between two-time Grammy award-winning jazz pianist/composer/arranger Alan Broadbent (Diana Krall, Woody Herman, Natalie Cole) and award-winning vocalist/lyricist Georgia Mancio (Liane Carroll, Ian Shaw,  ReVoice! Festival). Their eponymous album, described as “pure perfection” by leading global jazz blog JazzWax, was launched at Ronnie Scott’s in 2017 with subsequent engagements across Europe and the US including Dizzy’s and Kitano (NYC) and Rochester, London and Krakow International Jazz Festivals. Completing their quartet are acclaimed bassist Oli Hayhurst (Pharoah Sanders, Julian Siegel) and drummer Dave Ohm (Gregory Porter, Ian Shaw). TICKET LINK
