EMERGE

FREE INDUSTRY TRAINING FOR YOUNG MUSICIANS AND PRODUCERS

ConnectsMusic is excited to share with you the new World Heart Beat Academy’s venture EMERGE – free industry training and talent development programme for aspiring young musicians and producers aged 16-25.

EMERGE brings people together and allows them to explore their creativity and interests in a non-judgemental & comfortable space.

-Ava Joseph, Young Producer

World Heart Beat presents EMERGE, a new industry training and talent development programme aimed at supporting young people looking to start a career in the music industry. The FREE 8-week training programme is open to 16-25 year olds living, working or studying in south London.

It is an opportunity for young musicians to develop their career in music through free training sessions, masterclasses, mentoring and paid placements with high profile industry partners. Participants learn music production and take part in sessions exploring key topics such as ‘working as an independent artist’ and ‘building your community’; gaining a strong understanding of career options within the industry and progression pathways.

More about four key themes:

  • YOUR VOICE, YOUR COMMUNITY: This strand explores how communities are nurtured and shaped by musicians and creators. From the way artists and collectives build their communities using their gigs and social media, to the running of larger campaigns and initiatives. It will feature creative leaders sharing their stories about how and why they created their community; the gaps it filled; and the difference it’s made.

  • PRODUCTION: Making and producing quality music without expensive software and equipment. This hands-on strand will cover everything from track breakdowns, to studio visits, to sessions demonstrating specific techniques and showcasing artists pushing the boundaries in mixing, mastering, beat-making and engineering.

  • IN MY SHOES: An in-depth look at the UK music scene as well as the opportunities and roles that exist within it. In My Shoes features honest and inspirational advice from music professionals at different stages of their careers.

  • GOING SOLO: This strand examines what it takes to be an independent creator from the perspective of music artists and those who support them. In today’s music industry, we want to highlight those who operate independently and spark conversations about the workload, lifestyle and experiences of an independent creative.

Masterclasses are led by professional artists and producers who are passionate about nurturing the next generation of talent. Last season EMERGE welcomed rapper and social activist Eerf Evil, Jazz FM Breakthrough Act 2021 winner Jas Kayser, singer/songwriter Kali Claire and South London based artist and producer BINA to share their knowledge.

EMERGE’s success lies in its youth-led approach. The training is designed by young musicians for young musicians, ensuring it’s relevant to their needs and interests. As a result, participants leave the course feeling both knowledgeable and inspired!

– Kim Morrison, Head of Programmes

The programme builds on the professional training delivered to emerging musicians through World Heart Beat’s successful Music Leaders programme and represents a strong commitment to addressing the systemic barriers that young people from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds face. EMERGE is a youth-led programme, co-designed and delivered by World Heart Beat’s young producers and industry professionals. The approach allows young people to tailor the training to their interests and explore roles and opportunities that most closely align with their skill set and interests, giving them the strongest chance of developing a sustainable career.
